Remediation

Over the last few years, CONSULTECH's experience has shown that environmental regulatory agencies have focused their concerns on contamination source clean up and risk-based corrective action for contaminants which have migrated beyond the more heavily contaminated source area. We are apprised of the latest corrective action policies of the U.S. EPA and state environmental protection agencies, as well as the latest proven remedial technologies.

CONSULTECH designs and implements innovative, cost-effective solutions when contaminant concentrations in soil, surface water, or groundwater exceed site-specific or regulatory action levels. Working closely with our clients, we outline the parameters of concerns and develop effective clean-up solutions which suit the client's budgetary requirements and time constraints.

Our approach to Remediation Design and Implementation includes:

  • Conducting a remedial investigation to collect physical design parameters and identify the extent of contamination.
  • Working with our client to establish short- and long-term budget requirements and proposals.
  • Preparing Corrective Action Plans for regulatory agencies.
  • Designing, procuring, and installing remediation systems.
  • Performing contaminant fate and transport modeling for risk evaluation, as needed, in order to minimize or eliminate potentially costly clean up.
  • Obtaining regulatory concurrence and trust fund reimbursements, if applicable.
  • Performing operation and maintenance of systems and clean-up performance monitoring for project closure.

Remedial Services

CONSULTECH provides engineering capabilities for custom remedial systems design and manufacturing, including:

  • groundwater pump-and-treat
  • product skimmers
  • air strippers
  • air sparging
  • vacuum extraction
  • biotreatment
  • slurry wall
  • capping
  • low-temperature thermal desorption
  • carbon absorption
  • catalytic and thermal oxidation

Areas of expertise include: mechanical, electrical, chemical, and process control engineering with full computer-aided drafting support. Field engineers, project supervisors, and technicians direct the installation and start-up of remedial systems.

Hazardous Waste

Our engineering team has specific experience in remedial system designs that meet or exceed the regulatory requirements imposed on hazardous waste sites which are subject to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. CONSULTECH will custom design bench-scale investigations, field treatability studies, and/or pilot plant operations to ensure the selected remedial technology is appropriate for site-specific compounds and conditions.

Operations & Maintenance

CONSULTECH installs, operates, and maintains all types of remedial systems. These include both custom-designed systems, as well as most major manufacturers' remediation equipment systems. Our trained technicians are experienced in operating and maintaining compressors, pumps, air handlers, and electrical process controls. We are actively operating and maintaining pump-and-treat, product skimmer, air sparge, vacuum extraction, carbon absorption, and incinerator systems throughout the Southeastern United States.

In addition, our company offers a unique ITD program (Interactive Telemetry and Data Management System) which enables us to remotely monitor sites and distribute critical information to those who need it most. This helps our clients significantly reduce their operation and maintenance costs.

Waste Minimization

CONSULTECH offers its clients a means by which they can evaluate their facility's process waste stream(s) and determine potential options for reducing and recycling waste(s). In recent years, in addition to stricter regulations and the rising costs/liabilities associated with waste disposal, economic incentives have been offered to encourage waste minimization programs. Our engineers identify facility processes where the implementation of waste minimization would be both technologically feasible and economically justifiable. We will prepare a waste minimization assessment procedure tailored for each client's operation and provide assistance in evaluating the effectiveness of implementing waste minimization techniques designed by CONSULTECH or others.

Fate & Transport Modeling

CONSULTECH provides both two- and three-dimensional modeling to determine the fate and transport of contaminants released into the soil, groundwater, or rock. We evaluate site- and contaminant-specific characteristics such as groundwater velocities, soil permeability, and chemical solubility to graphically predict contaminant migration and degradation over time. This helps to evaluate the potential impact to human health and the environment and is the foundation for cost-savings, risk-based corrective action (RBCA).

Underground Storage Tanks

To comply with Federal regulations for UST management, many USTs will require permanent closure. Most of these USTs will need to be removed or closed in place. From regulatory compliance to UST removal/closure, CONSULTECH has vast experience and provides all the services required for UST management. Our professional staff employs many effective innovative technologies. Our services include:

  • estimating project scoping and cost
  • overseeing and logistical planning of project personnel and resource allocation
  • Procuring, negotiating, with and managing subcontractors
  • developing and implementing site-specific requirements for assessing and restoring site
  • handling, transporting, and disposing of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes
  • designing, installing, and implementing remediation systems
  • regulatory agency correspondence
  • negotiating cleanup/remediation objectives, permitting, and current regulatory compliance issues
  • providing State funding reimbursement accounting

Permitting and Regulatory Assistance

CONSULTECH provides the following services to assure clients' compliance with all applicable permits and regulations:

  • UST notifications
  • Compliance audits
  • Permit applications
  • Regulatory compliance strategy development
  • Negotiations with regulatory agencies

Leak Detection, Tank Removal, and Monitoring

CONSULTECH offers clients a wide range of services to ensure proper operations, maintenance, and removal of USTs:

  • Supervision of tightness testing
  • Tank and line removal
  • Groundwater monitoring system design
  • Vapor monitoring system design
